Relationships and Running

This is pretty personal.

I was in a relationship with someone who I considered my best friend. He also did track. I thought this would be great because we’ve known each other for 7+ years (but distance and my school in the USA never really allowed us to date).  But now living closer and wanting to still continue track we both thought it would be good.

Unfortunately that wasn’t the case and we have now gone out separate ways.

I feel like all the stress from trying to make it work however has greatly caused me to lose focus.

I feel like my energy that I put aside to train and get stronger was put into trying to make something work that wasn’t going well and I’m left here heartbroken because I feel like I’ve failed on both sides.

Its not easy. and again life is never meant to be. If everything was easy we never learn and grow and become stronger and more mature.

SO

on the positive side this has definitely opened my eyes. I am not trying to jump into any relationship anytime soon. And I will be putting all this energy into getting myself back into shape and saving as much money as possible so that I can compete.

This is my my focus even if I can’t compete in the 400H anymore I just want to always have running in my life.

(and maybe one day I can be like everyone else and run a half marathon or marathon)

I’m finally back in Houston after spending a wonderful week in North Carolina! Monday and Tuesday were rest days and Wednesday welcomed me back to the track under Texas skies. I finished off the day with a LIGHT weight routine in the gym Back to the drawing board… work work work work work!

If you don’t run your race they will pass you and win.

Focus on what you know and what works best for you and you’ll succeed

What you learn from Track and Field
If you slow down for one second someone will always take that opportunity to pass you.
What you learn from Track and Field
I stumbled upon your blog while searching the diamond league tag. I love this! Very motivational and inspiring. Please do keep on posting on here. I have a dream of competing in a track comp. one day so I've started to train. I'm trying to stay motivated but it's hard, so I'm glad I found your blog! Have a good day/night :) Peace

Thank you! I’m glad that you like it. I will keep posting and good luck with your training.

I know its difficult to stay motivated. Just remember you are running and training and competing to enjoy yourself. Don’t ever let it become stressful!!

You know you are a Track Athlete and Fan When:

You are watching track and field at work on your computer and skip a work free lunch lol…

Sigh. can’t be helped.

At least I get to go home early :)

Training- Second week

I am into my second week of training again.

I wake up at 7am and do sit ups, push-ups and squats.

Then I come home and I work out again a run or something i put together. Pretty much everything to build up my endurance.

It helps me relieve the stress of work as well as get me prepared for indoors next year.

I want to be that person that just makes heads turn. I want to compete and enjoy myself. If i run well I’ll be ecstatic. but I just want to have fun. No pressure.

I’ve finally gotten myself in the routine and I’m enjoying it so much i don’t believe i will be giving up so easily anymore. We all have to find our way. Some of us find another path but I’m glad I’m sticking with the thing I enjoy the most and the sport I love.

Motivation to Succeed - Its who you keep as friends

Sometimes your friends can be the cause of why you are not succeeding.

Yes, we don’t want to hear that but it can be the truth. If you stay around people who are not motivated to succeed that will eventually rub off on you as well.

You will start doing less.

You won’t care as much.

You will begin to live mediocre and be content with that.

And your dreams will vanish.

For myself it was the opposite. I wasn’t hanging out anyone and letting myself get into my own head. I didn’t speak to anyone about how I felt, why I wasn’t training, why i felt I had such a lack of motivation since moving.

I was in a slump because I wasn’t training, and not training was putting me in a slump.

How does that work?

who knows; but that’s where I was a week and a half ago.

I started talking to college teammates and friends as well as friends at home.

We all are going through rough times, self doubt and just everyday post college and adult life struggle.

But we still try.

We try and succeed and follow our dreams so in the end we cannot have the regret of giving up too soon.

So look at your friends (the ones around you) the best people to keep at your side are the ones who will push you to keep doing your best. They will be there to motivate you physically and mentally.

I am grateful for the people who do that for me.
